Forgive me the overindulgent Tolkien reference; I defended my PhD thesis this past month, and the song is the simplest summation of the relevant emotions. Included here are some photographs of the defense talk and celebration afterwards.

There’s much (and more) I could say about my PhD, but I’ll have to write it in another blog because, to be honest, I’m quite tired and jet-lagged. I just returned from a post-defense trip to Japan, which I should also attempt to summarize for posterity. eventually, I’ll share with some people my thesis, because I wrote some especially heartfelt acknowledgements and a pretty compelling introduction section. I still have to submit the final document to the library this month in order to officially earn the title; I’ll be sure to get on that soon.
Until next time, clear skies.
The Road goes ever on and on,
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, “A Long-expected Party“
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
